 Successful United Nations HIV/AIDS Race for Life

 The UN in Ukraine 2003 Race for Life which took place at Maidan Nezalezhnosti and on Kreshchatyk on Sunday, September 21st was a resounding success. Over 6000 runners participated. It was a festive event an occurred on a beautiful, clear cool fallish feeling day.
The HIV/AIDS Race for Life was organized by the United Nations in cooperation with many national and international and non-governmental partners. Much thanks is owed to the sponsors who contributed their time and efforts to the success of the event. And much is owed to the United Nations and its fine people. They worked hard and with success to meet their principal objective. The important objective, of course, of putting the issue of the need for Ukrainian efforts to defeat this worldwide pandemic that is affecting this country to such an alarming degree. Special kudos to Dmitri Vasylev and Amanda Pitt of the UN as we as to all of their young volunteers.
Little League in Ukraine (and a 25th visit to Kyiv)
Basil (Vasyl) P. Tarasko, the District Administrator of the Little Leagues in Ukraine has written that he again returns to Ukraine for his 25th year. His first visit was in 1991. The letter contained information as follows: He will be in Kyiv, Ukraine October 22 - November 7, 2003, to meet with all concerned individuals looking to improve their Little League baseball and softball programs and anyone interested in beginning a new program.
A meeting has been arranged with the Director of the Help Us Help The Children Fund in Kyiv to begin a Little League program in Internet schools, which serve the many orphans in Ukraine.
He will meet with concerned individuals in the city of Lugansk who want to start a Little League softball program next spring. Also, he hopes to meet with coaches in Tiraspol, Moldova to help start a Little League program.
Mr. Tarasko requests that anyone who wishes to contact him concerning Little League and its programs, to schedule a meeting or simply to reach him contact:

Tarasko wrote that he and Vitaliy were ready to help all those programs that follow the Little League philosophy.
Information on Little League:
- Requires a minimum of four (4) teams of children ages 9 to 12 for a league.
- This is the new requirement for all Little Leagues in Ukraine for 2004.
- Only those leagues which meet the minimum standards will be invited to the Ukraine Little League Championships in June of 2004.
- Only those leagues will be allowed to represent Ukraine in European Regional Championships.
