Pret-a-Cafe': Coffee and More

A New UO Distribution Venue

Pret-a-Cafe' is one of the newest offerings on historic Andrivskyi Uzviz, a place to stop in, get a cup of specially brewed coffee, and enjoy one of their many desserts.

Located toward the foot of the slope at 10a, Pret-a-Cafe also offers a full bar of hard drinks and wine, just the thing to warm up on those cool spring days and nights.

The atmosphere is one of calm and relaxation, a get-away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Our reporter described it as a place one doesn't want to leave.

A visitor is offered five pure coffees and an assortment of blends. On the liquor side, the emphasis is on whiskeys and Cognac, something that goes well with the fine cigars available. Also, sandwiches are served.

Besides the ordinary ways of preparing coffee, Pret-a-Cafe offers its visitors coffee prepared by a rare method, which is called "vacuum siphon."

The decor is made up of three zones, with one being for businessmen, casual visitors and families. This is a non-smoking section until 7 p.m. The walls are decorated with social realism paintings.

The second zone is a conversation area, made up of high tables and stools. This, a smoking area, is a good place to sit and chat with friends.

The final room consists of couches, cushions and small coffee tables. The walls have inset LCD monitors separated by paintings. The owners describe this area of subdued light as a fusion of Oriental and European luxury, and call it the fireplace room. It is more of an "evening room," though it serves just as well as an afternoon coffee or tea room.

Pret-a-Cafe' is owned by Evgeniy Bereznitskiy, a local lawyer, and Aleksei Terek. And is open from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. More information can be obtained by calling 416 12 97.
